Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping is a specialist type of adhesive taping, which is applied to the skin of the swollen area by a trained therapist. The principal aim of Kinesiotaping is to lift the skin during movement and encourage the flow of lymphatic fluid. It is usually applied in conjunction with a compression garment or bandaging, but can be used on its own on areas such as the breasts, chest wall, back and genitals or if the patient finds wearing compression garments difficult.
Using tape for scars can help reduce the formation of excess scar tissue and soften raised scars. The tape holds the skin in a stretched position, creating space between the dermis, fascia, and muscle. This increased lymphatic flow can promote healing and remodelling, thereby improving the appearance of the scar and helping to soften raised scars.
